  If you are of any religious denomination I doubt there is a government database with your name on it

  In the past, multiple countries used to record religous affiliation as part of their census. Most no longer do.

  i was reading through another thread and this was briefly mentioned.

  i remember goodie nights, i also remember how they just kind of faded out.

  was that an unofficial thing or was there official direction from the fds in the form of a letter/article or local needs talk that put a stop to it?.

  Goodie night disappeared because now what was the bookstudy is combined with another meeting at the KH. Bookstudy was the only meeting I really enjoyed because it did allow people to get to know one another on a more personal basis, and it provided an opportunity for more in-depth studying and commenting.

  I think it was a strategic error on the part of JWs to get rid of it. Now they are even more like every other church where people run in and run out. At our local KH, you should see the cars peeling out of the KH parking lot within 15 minutes of the meeting ending...they can't wait to get out!

  It is no longer extreme, if referring to this particular group of people. Forced registration is exactly what the Nazis did to the Jewish population of Germany.

  The Nazis did not kill 6 million Jewish people overnight and go from being perfectly amicable one day to burning them in ovens the next. It started with small steps. It was certain restrictions or regulations, then it was mandatory yellow stars, then it was curfews; it was the culmination of many smaller civil liberty infringements that eventually led to mass murder in concentration camps.

  Japanese during WW2, Chinese, Germans, etc. We have a long and undistinguished history of letting our baser emotion control during tough times. We like to believe that we have progressed, but only time will tell whether we have.

  It's good to keep in mind the Hitler and Mussolini were elected...because people were experiencing economic down times and wanted these strong personalities to put things 'back on track.' So...they looked the other way at human rights violations.

  i have been watching glenn beck for over a year and i like him...he says what most americans are thinking and feeling.

  there is no doubt he has a love for our creator.

  btw i was a jw for 10 years and left that religion for good...i have no desire to belong to another religion but i do consider myself a christian.. just wanted to know what your opinion is of glenn beck.

  Furnishing my apartment suggestions?

  now, unfortunately, i'm going to be renting my furniture because i do not want an empty apartment with only a bed because it'll be my first apartment in like 8 years.

  I should have considered the double entendres that could result from my thread topic.

  Snowbird, I must admit that when I saw the title of the thread I thougt, "Oh no! She accidentally confused "poll" with "pole," and then started laughing at the ..."take my pole" part and the comments it would produce. :)
